We believe this to be an extremely rare parade banner from the 1927 Carnaval celebration in Nice on the Cote de Azur. This hand painted silk banner may refer to a prize awarded by the festival organizers How this fragile example of ephemera came to be in New England, we cannot imagine. I bought it decades ago at a local auction.
Some tears to the silk and the orange ribbons are not original.
