The late Robert Mattingly was a true pioneer in the guitar world. Not only was he a revered builder but he owned a shop called “World of Strings,” formerly located in Long Beach where he sold accessories, guitars, and had a teaching program. Mattingly, a self-taught builder, had an approach to guitar that was entirely his own and thus created instruments that were unlike any other.
This Mattingly has a rich-deep bass and warmth and sustain that is almost cello-like. The trebles are balanced and complement the warmth of the basses without overpowering them. There is an overall charm about this guitar that comes through when one sits down to play it. The guitar has an expertly repaired headstock that is even stronger now than it was previous to the damage. Top seam was repaired by Greg Miller . The guitar is solid and sounds like a real 76 Miguel Rodriguez at a fraction of the price
