Description
The RARE 1st Edition of " Lo - To - Kah " by Verner Z. Reed ~~ Illustrated with painting by Charles Craig and Drawings by Maynard Dixon ( He was 22 when he illustrated this ; his first book ). Published by Continental Publishing Company , New York & London , 1897.The preface talks about the Ute Native American Indians belief in the power to Send The Spirit away from the physical body as an " Astral Body" in what is ofre commonly referred to now as Astral Travel ...... In these the interconnected short stories about an old Ute Indian, Lo-To-Kah, most if not all of the tales pervaded with Indian supernaturalism, for which the author offers a brief defense in his preface. In most Native American tribes (as with most primitive peoples) the supernatural played an integral role. Thus one could expect to find the supernatural, to one degree of another, in fiction dealing with them. The frontispiece and ten illustrations are by Maynard Dixon and Charles Craig, and this was the first book illustrated by Maynard Dixon. Of the illustrations, seven are signed by Dixon, and he was responsible for all of the numerous vignettes and illustrations in the text.
