    Description

SCARCE OLD REPORT!!  ALL MAPS AND CHARTS PRESENT!!
This is USGS Professional Paper 233-D,
Devonian and Mississippian Rocks of Central Arizona
. Published in 1952, there aren't many of these around. This publication consists of the
    46-page
book the map and two charts that come in a pocket in the back.
This book discusses the distribution and characteristics of the Devonian and Mississippian rocks in Arizona. Most of the exposures of these rocks are in the Grand Canyon area, but several other areas have important exposures as well. The area of this study is mainly east of Phoenix. One of the photos shows the page with the location map.
The report was written chiefly with petroleum exploration in mind, but the descriptions of the rocks are great no matter what your interest is. Some mysteries surround the absence of these rocks in certain areas and it was not know at the time whether it was due to faulting or the lack of their original deposition. I'm not sure how that story has worked out over the years. Maybe they've figured it out.
A number of photos and diagrams in the book are helpful in understanding the rocks and their occurrence. A good book for the Arizona geologist or armchair geologist just looking to understand the state better.
Here is a great opportunity to own an old interesting publication on Arizona geology!
