    Description

    This is
USGS Circular 842, The Potential for Diamond-Bearing Kimberlite in Northern Michigan and Wisconsin.
Published in 1981. This short book discusses the newly discovered (at the time) occurrence of diamond-bearing kimberlite in the Upper Peninsula area of Michigan. The discovery of the Lake Ellen Kimberlite came as quite a surprise to geologists and mining interests and sparked a bit of a rush of exploration in the area.
This very interesting 15 page book looks at some unusual areas where disturbed sedimentary rocks may conceal diamond bearing rocks. I don’t known to what extent the sites discussed in this book have been further investigated but it certainly is intriguing to think that there may be diamond deposits still waiting to be found in the area. This is a very well-written book that is easy to understand.
