    This is USGS Bulletin 1230-B,
Mineral Resources of the Spanish Peaks Primitive Area, Montana
. This report consists of the 45-page book and BOTH OF THE ORIGINAL GEOLOGIC MAPS. Published in 1966, there were probably never many of these around. The area covered in this work is about 70 square miles and lies west of the Gallatin river, south of Bozeman, and east of Ennis. It is beautiful country that could be made even more interesting by bringing this along on any backpacking or hiking trip. Elevations range from 6000 feet to over 11,000 feet, so it includes a lot of high mountain country. The geology is diverse, with exposures of ancient metamorphic rocks.
A nice photo shows interesting geologic features in this area. The geology of the area is covered in detail and the search for mineral resources is detailed as well. A lot of the area is mountainous terrain.  All in all it is a scarce and very interesting and complete work on a beautiful area. Don’t miss it!
