    Published in 1978, there can't be many of these around. This 38-page book details the big picture geology of this wild and beautiful area. The Olympic Mountains comprise several packages of rocks thrust over each other. With numerous maps, photographs, and diagrams in the text this report pulls it all apart and explains everything.
    Rocks range in age from Eocene to Pliocene and include mostly basalts with subordinate amounts of other rocks. Their structural relations to each other are complex, as is the history that brought them together.
    This is a great report from the early days of understanding plate tectonics. So it's cool that they chose this great area to do the study, because a lot of people love this area for its beauty. With this in hand you can have a much better understanding of the features you see when you backpack or hike in this area.
