    Description

    COMPLETE WITH ORIGINAL COLOR MAP!!
    This is USGS Bulletin 432,
Some Ore Deposits in Maine and The Milan Mine, New Hampshire
    . Published in
    1910
, there can't be many of these around! It consists of a 62-page book and the full color map, which is bound into the map as a fold-out. This is a great book that describes many small mines for copper, lead, zinc and silver in Maine, plus the Milan mine in New Hampshire, which produced copper.
There are many individual mines and prospects discussed by name. Most are along the coastal region around Bluehill, Brooksville, Deer Isle, and Castine, the area shown on the color map. The map is in great shape and has a vintage style that is really nice. The text contains a lot of interesting little details. It also describes all the formations and units in the area. Each of the counties containing mines in this report is listed below, along with the number of mines.
    Hancock: 21
    Washington: 5
    Somerset and Oxford: 2
    The section on the
    Milan mine
is about 10 pages at the end of the book and describes the mine, its production, and history.
Overall a rare and interesting book on the mines and mining history of Maine and New Hampshire. The Table of Contents photos should give you a good idea whats in it. A rare old book, and I don't use that word lightly.
