    Description

SCARCE!! HOT ITEM!!  HARDER AND HARDER TO FIND!!
    This is USGS Bulletin 922-H,
Tungsten Deposits of the Atolia District, San Bernardino and Kern Counties, California
. Published in 1940, there can’t be many of these around anymore. This publication consists of the
    41-page book
and all three original maps, which are in a pocket in the back of the book. The maps are large. Dimensions are given below. All maps are in excellent condition. One of the maps is of specific mine workings, showing the different levels in the underground mines, and how all the underground mines relate to each other spatially. This area lies north of Los Angeles and produced tungsten for several years from veins in the mountains. Here is a list of minerals from these mines drawn from the text of the book:
    Ankerite
    Calcite
    Cinnabar
    Dolomite
    Pyrite
    Quartz
    Scheelite
    Siderite
    Stibnite
Perhaps even more minerals have since been found in this area. In addition, quite a number of mines in this area are discussed in the book:
    Union mine
    Amity mine
    Acaley mine
    Rainstorm mine
    Goldstone mine
    Papoose mine
    Flatiron mine
    Spanish mine
    Paradox #1 and #3 mines
    Skylark mine
    Big Ben shaft
    Federal mine group
    Redondo Pete shaft
    Top Notch claim
    Sun and O’Niell shafts
    I Guess shaft
    And others!
This is an older publication that predates the tungsten-mining boom of the fifties, so there may be more mines in these areas now. This publication makes not only a great guide for the collector wanting to visit this area, but also a unique historical record of this district in its early days.  The maps are large also; they measure:
    24 x 41
    inches
    26 x 61
    inches
    23 x 31
    inches.
This is a scarce publication on an interesting and historical mining area. This is a rare opportunity for the collector of California minerals, or anyone that wants to give the place a crack!
