  • Condition: From a time when the USGS used poor quality acidic paper for the covers - this one is better than some. Cover is detached from text block and is notably chipped on the back. Some writing and smudges on the front cover. Smudges on the back cover. Binding of the text block is tight and this is a very readable book if you take care with the cover. Description

    CLASSIC GEOLOGY!! SCARCE OLD REPORT!!
This is USGS Professional Paper 122,
Copper Deposits of the Tyrone District, New Mexico.
    Published in
    1922
, this 53-page book is a New Mexico classic. This report comes complete with all seven maps bound into the book. One is a full color geologic map of the area. Another is a topographic map. There are also maps of underground workings, and cross sectional diagrams. In addition, there are maps and diagrams within the text, as well as photos of parts of the district and some of the geologic features.
The Tyrone district was noteworthy for large secondary copper deposits enriched with chalcocite. The deposits are located in and around a large porphyry copper system that is still being mined today. This book contains a section on the various mine areas, divided into sections on those near Tyrone and those near Leopold. Specific areas mentioned include
    East ore body
    Protection ore body
    St Louis
    ore body
    West
    ore body
    Sampson
    ore body
    Block A
    ore body
    Breccia
    ore body
There are several diagrams in the text related to these ore bodies and their workings.
This is a nice vintage report that I love for its cool old-style maps and diagrams. It would be of interest to local
    residents
, historians, geologists, or arm chair geologists interested in this area. These were originally issued with acidic paper covers, and this is better preserved than many.
