Description
FEW LEFT! !This is USGS Bulletin 1082-J,
Geology and Mineral Deposits of the Carlile Quadrangle, Crook County, Wyoming
. Published in 1961, this is a scarce item! This large report consists of the 93-page book and all
ALL FIVE OF THE ORIGINAL GEOLOGIC MAPS, three of which are full color!
It is amazing to find this complete after all these years.
The area covered by this report is about 54 square mines. A large uranium deposit at the Carlile mine is discussed in detail. Minerals noted at this mine include:
Carnotite
Tyuyamunite
Metarossite
Coffinite
Doloresite
Rauvite
Hewettite
Häggite (This rare vanadium mineral was first discovered at this mine!)
Calcite
Hematite
Limonite
Gypsum
Some of these are colorful yellow minerals! There is another area called Thorne Divide where drilling revealed uranium mineralization at depth. This was new at the time, and I bet a uranium mine eventually went in there as well. Still other areas are noted for radioactivity and even yellow uranium minerals. The locations are given.
This report covers all the geology of the formations and structure of the area and gives a very complete treatment of the area. It is a large report with several nice maps. The whole thing, the book with the maps in the back pocket is about a half inch thick! It’s nearly ten ounces of fun to look through as you explore this area. Check out all the maps in the photos.
I will continue to add new items to my store, so check back periodically.
