SCARCE ITEM!! THESE HISTORIC BULLETINS FROM POPULOUS STATES ARE WICKED HARD TO FIND!!This is USGS Bulletin 1074-E,
Uranium in Phillips Mine-Camp Smith Area, Putnam and Westchester Counties, New York
. Published in 1959 there can’t be many of these around. It consists of the 33-page book and all three of the original geologic maps, one of which is a nice color map! This area is within the Peekskill Quadrangle, in the Anthony’s Nose area.
Mindat.org has the Phillips Mine locality listed as “Anthony's Nose Pyrrhotite Mine (Phillips Pyrite Mine), Anthony's Nose, Peekskill, Westchester Co., New York, USA” and has the following list of minerals for the locality:
Actinolite
Albite
'Albite-Anorthite Series var: Labradorite'
Aragonite
Arsenopyrite
Augite
Barite
Biotite
Calcite
Chalcopyrite

(This list is included to show the mineral diversity of the area. They are not all necessarily mentioned in the text.)
This area has a long mining history and is quite interesting. They discovered uranium in the rocks in the fifties, but the total amounts proved to be too small to justify mining for it. Nonetheless, the uranium formed uraninite crystals up to a centimeter in size.
All in all this is a rare and interesting publication on an important New York locality.
